5 Things To Do in the York Maine Beach Area to Make Your Vacation Memorable

One Long Beach - York Maine Beach Area

Are you considering a first-time visit to the York Maine Beach area? Or, do you regularly vacation in one of Maine’s most beautiful seaside towns? Either way, there’s no shortage of things to do and see in York. From catching rays on Long Sands or Short Sands Beach, to watching saltwater taffy being made at Goldenrod Kisses and shopping until you drop downtown, to exploring the beauty of York Harbor and everything in between - there’s truly something for everyone in your group.
Now, if you want to ensure your York Beach vacation is as memorable as can be, we recommend you put the following on your list of things to do while you’re visiting. We promise, you won’t be disappointed.

  • Take in the Scenic View at Nubble Light

Nubble Light is a highly photographed and iconic lighthouse in York, Maine, and for good reason. On almost any kind of day - rain or shine, the view of this lighthouse, atop a rocky, grass-covered island is unlike any other. Of course, sunrise and sunset often yield the most breaktaking pictures, but a clear blue afternoon sky can be just as beautiful.

Visitors can walk to the viewing area, or park in the small metered lot available. There is a small gift shop, and bathrooms are available during the warmer months. Bring a lunch and sit on the rocks or a bench, drop your pole in the water, put on your scuba gear, or just stroll through and watch as the sun sets. You don’t want to miss this York, Maine landmark.

  • Enjoy a Concert at Ellis Park

Almost every evening in July and August, visitors can hear live music at Ellis Park, at the gazebo at Short Sands Beach. The shows take place from 6:30-8:30pm, and the concert series is run by the Ellis Park Trustees. It’s a great way to wind down after dinner, and it’s something the whole family can enjoy.

  • Hike Mount Agamenticus

If your crew is the active type, you may enjoy an easy hike up Mount Agamenticus. There are several trails to choose from, some of which are also open to equestrians and ATV riders. The longest trail is 1.5 miles long. The mountain and trails are carry-in, carry-out, so be sure to bring a backpack, and of course, some water to stay hydrated as you explore.

  • Have a Clambake

You can hit the local grocery store and put your own clam bake together, or, you can head to Foster’s and them take care of it for you. They’ll also bring the party to you, if you prefer. If you’re traveling with a large party, a clambake at Foster’s is a great way to keep everyone entertained (and full). If you want to have a party that everyone will remember, we recommend checking them out.

  • Venture to York’s Wild Kingdom

York’s Wild Kingdom is a family-friendly and affordable attraction located right in downtown York. The park offers fun for kids and their parents, including a variety of exotic animals available for viewing, live interaction, animal presentations, an amusement park, mini golf, batting cages, an arcade, and more.

These are just a few of the many things to do in on your York Beach vacation. If you stay at one of our beach house vacation rentals in York, you’ll be that much closer to all of the fun!
